Don't Let Transportation Woes Interfere With Your Mental Health Care

There’s no denying the critical role mental health care plays in managing issues like depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and substance abuse issues. Yet, for many people, getting access to care is problematic.

At Conduit Behavioral Health, Temika Heyward, PhD, FNP, CRNP, PMH, and her team understand the serious problems of lack of transportation. Here, she offers two solutions to help you get treatment when needed.

Accessing mental health care

Mental health care offers real, meaningful solutions to people struggling with mental health issues. Yet many of those studies fail to address a common issue: inaccessibility of care due to a lack of transportation.

Transportation issues can happen for many reasons, from lacking a car to needing support while traveling to feeling overwhelmed when leaving home. Some people are hampered by a need to find care for a child or an elderly relative, while others may feel anxious using noisy, crowded public transportation.

Solution 1: Telehealth without leaving home

In addition to our on-site therapies, we offer telehealth care for many programs. You connect with your therapist through telehealth using your smartphone, tablet, or computer. A secure internet connection keeps all your information private.

Aside from your electronic device, you only need a quiet, private spot with an internet connection. Our team can help you log in to our secure portal, where you’ll connect with your therapist.

You’ll discuss your concerns during your appointment and engage in therapy, just like at an in-person visit. We can even prescribe or refill many medications during your visit.

Solution 2: Transportation to on-site services

While telehealth can be a good solution for some services, it’s not always ideal or advisable. The team at Conduit Behavioral Health offers a wide array of services and treatments that benefit from in-person treatment or are only available at our office location.

To overcome transportation barriers in these instances, we offer another solution: door-to-door transportation. Our team offers transportation to help patients get to and from appointments at our office, including visits for psychotherapy and group therapy, medication management, and substance abuse disorder treatment and therapy.

Our drivers are caring, compassionate, and discreet, offering safe and secure transportation.

Mental health is health

For too long, people drew a line between physical health and mental health. But the fact is, the two are interlinked — physical health is affected by mental health and vice versa.

By prioritizing mental health, you prioritize your overall wellness and quality of life. Finding a workable solution to transportation issues knocks down one more obstacle preventing you from feeling better and staying better.

Don’t let transportation problems prevent you from getting the mental health care you need. To learn how we can help, request an appointment online or over the phone with Dr. Heyward and the team at Conduit Behavioral Health in Baltimore, Maryland, today.
